Poseidon Shrub Rose - Kordes Fragrant Garden RoseAdd to Wishlist
Poseidon is an exceptional lavender-lilac rose and by far the best rose available in the lavender-lilac color range. The beautifully cupped, fully double rosettes emerge continuously from darker, purple buds and are produced in clusters. As the blooms open, the unopened center holds a darker purple while the outer petals take on their contrasting lavender hue. As the blooms fully open, the petals become more uniformly lavender with scalloped edged petals. Poseidon displays excellent disease resistance and is particularly free flowering, repeat blooming throughout the growing season. The blooms are perfumed with a good, moderately strong old-rose fragrance, and it forms a bushy shrub with healthy, light green foliage.
Introduced in 2010 by renowned rose breeder Kordes, Poseidon - also known as Novalis - was awarded a gold medal in 2013 at the ADR* Rose trials in Germany. This award is likely the most coveted and difficult to achieve for rose varieties - no pesticides are allowed and the roses are evaluated over a period of 3 years on criteria that include disease resistance, hardiness and habit. Among Poseidon's list of accolades is the distinction of being a highly ranked variety at the New York Botanical Gardens. *(Allgemeine Deutsche Rosenneuheitenprüfung)
Poseidon represents a color breakthrough in roses as this color is particularly challenging for breeders. While several lilac and lavender rose varieties are available, their performance and reliability in the garden have been widely surpassed by Poseidon.
Poseidon is equally well suited to mixed borders, rose beds and large containers, reaching a height of 3 - 4 feet tall and 3 feet tall.
